How Your Mental Attitude Plays A Role In Your Healing
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. - Charles Swindoll
If Shine Beyond Cancer has a foundation, this is it. We believe that everything comes down to our attitude, how we view our current situation. Our minds are so powerful, even more so than our bodies. Have you ever thought about getting a really great parking space and BOOM there it was? Have you ever had a friend on your mind and magically the phone rings and it is him or her calling? Coincidence? We know NOT. When you can tap into to the power of your mind, focus on the positive aspects of your body and your health and literally every aspect of your life, you can change the outcome to your advantage. This is just one tool that Marc and I have mastered over the last several years that we share with you in our book, Shine Beyond Cancer. Please keep reading...below is an excerpt from the book.

When Things Started To Shift - Marc Slugh
Looking back at the first half of 2010 I realize that’s when I hit my mental rock bottom. It had been three and a half years since we closed our NYSE business and I still could not find a path to professional fulfillment. I started day trading, working on a desk as a sales trader and a research salesman. I expected these positions to be an easy transition with my twenty-five years of knowledge in the financial industry. However, none of these experiences were financially fruitful or mentally stimulating. Add on top of that a two-hour commute each way which is enough in itself to drive someone crazy!
When we moved from NYC out to NJ, we moved into a gorgeous home on the water that we had built four and a half years earlier in partnership with my in-laws when times were good. We had somewhere to call home and my kids had the pleasure of living with their grandparents for the next six years. However, for me, I missed the hustle and bustle of living in Tribeca, and I resented the long commute every moment.
My mood had been declining for the last four years, and I was not in a good place at all. I couldn’t see how down I truly was.
Fortunately, my ambitious wife, Danielle, was in a much better place. Because of her new career as a virtual franchise owner, she was exposed to a lot of personal growth experiences and events. She read and studied from the best in personal development, like Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, and others. Danielle always encouraged me to join her, but I thought I knew better. I assumed I could get through all of this by myself, but I was wrong. I was sinking lower and lower into depression and then finally by the grace of God something happened.
The phone rang and it was Wendy, my first cousin, inviting me to attend a four-day transformational workshop. She raved about how amazing it was and how much she learned. She was completely sold on her new mindset and wanted to share it with me. I figured that if it was good enough for her, then it was good enough for me too and I would give it a try. I decided to take a chance, on me.
I hate to admit it, but my attitude going into the basic workshop was dismal. I remember asking myself, “What the hell am I thinking?” Fortunately, I wasn’t the only one. Next to me was an open seat, and at two minutes to seven a girl came rushing in and sat down. She looked at me and said, “What the fuck are we doing here?!” Allison, a tough girl from Brooklyn, brought a smile to my face and together we laughed.
All I can say is that after the four days were over, I went and signed up for the advanced course right away. There were fifty-four people in this advanced workshop, and I had the opportunity to meet an amazing variety of people, from every walk of life. In this workshop, I met and befriended a woman who has become my personal confidant. She knows so much about me and has become one of my dearest friends in my life. Fran Peltz and I were meant to cross paths.
What I learned had changed my mindset, and I understood things about myself that I had never seen before. I saw that I was capable of so much more than I was doing and that the universe was an abundant place supporting me at every turn.
